The Wire – TV series

There are 5 seasons in this series, each one centering around a different aspect of life in Baltimore (education, politics, media, etc.). The show was written by an ex-journalist and retired cop, both from Baltimore, and the result is a show with real-life quality to it. The Wire is pretty intense and doesn’t attempt to water anything down, or even incline towards a Disney ending. And while I found it pretty hard to watch at times, the show is incredibly well done and succeeds at crafting a brilliant narrative about inter-related issues – such as socio-economic disparities – and the real people who struggle in our world’s inner cities.

UP! – Disney/Pixar film, animation.

I don’t know what happened but I bawled my eyes out in this flick! Totally unexpected and Jay laughed at every tear! I thought this was a beautiful little tale lined with many life themes and cute humour through-out. Really sweet. boo hoo!
