why start a blog?
One reason is I had a number of people ask me to start one when they heard Jay and I were moving to Haida Gwaii – “Oh, I’ve always wanted to go there! Let me know what it’s like!” “Keep in touch – tell us all about it!” I would never have thought of starting one, but the idea of sending out mass emails with our updates makes my skin crawl. That is soooo 90s! I like the fact that folks can pop in, or not, to see what life is like for me on the island, because for this city girl, this is a big move in more ways then one. Or should I say small move?
why veracious adventure?
I think it’s easy to talk about the things you do, but to really go deeper takes courage. The truth can be ugly, embarrassing, beautiful. I don’t always like going to that place, but I always learn something of great value about myself and it inevitably makes me a stronger person. I haven’t written since Mr. Collin’s Eng 11 class (and he hated me, so it wasn’t a very encouraging experience), and so I am learning that writing can feel good, sometimes empowering, even if I am writing about some of the vulnerable stuff. And sometimes it even feels…. (oh god, I want to say cathartic – but that’s soooo psychotherapy-ish, I’ll come back with a better word when it hits me!).
So my intention with this blog is to look for that little pearl of truth that lies within each adventure. And to enjoy the ride because if you can’t laugh at yourself, then life can become pretty heavy – and that’s no fun!
